Whenever you have something
important to say, I can help you say it.
It may or may not involve presentation skills.
Here’s why I flinch a little over the words “presentation skills.” While I certainly do include “performance” and “delivery” tips and techniques as part of my workshop content or coaching, I have found that many people mistakenly put too much emphasis on the delivery techniques and performance aspect of a presentation before they’ve truly wrapped their hands, hearts and minds around their message.
I have found that problems like nervousness, rambling, losing your train of thought, boring people to death and being able to cut, stretch or think on your feet are more closely related to structure and content, not delivery. Bluntly, most problems boil down to having too much “stuff” we want to say and not knowing what our point is or how to defend it. Our listeners are holding out a thimble’s worth of interest, and we fill it with a fire hose. Blah. Blah. Blah.
Message and structure first; delivery and staging second, that’s my approach. In fact, more often than not, the people I work with tell me that once they knew what their message was, how they would support it and in what order, the delivery was a cinch. It almost took care of itself, because they couldn’t wait to deliver their message, and their confidence and enthusiasm came naturally, not rehearsed.
Custom workshop, group therapy and one-to-one options abound. Again, there are many right answers as to how I can help you and/or your team be clear, confident and convincing. Let it be known that I especially love working with architectural, engineering, construction firms (AEC), and other service businesses who not only have to present their capabilities to win the work, but might also have to make presentations and recommendations as part of the services they provide to the clients who hire them.
Here are some conversation-starter examples:
- Customizedin-house workshop slash training. These can be half, whole or multiple day events, including practice and coaching for real-world, upcoming presentations. Some clients like Day 1 for training and Day 2 (or more) for putting it into practice right away with instant feedback and coaching from me. If you haven’t surfed there already, here’s where you can read more about my communication, presentation skills and perfecting your pitch programs.
- One-to-one or one-to-team coaching for a specific presentation or meeting, including helping you create, rehearse and refine the presentation. I’ve done these onsite, offsite and by Skype video, too.
- Take-it-up-a-notch or advanced coaching. Perhaps you are already pretty experienced and good at getting your point across, getting people to see things your way. Well, you don’t have to be sick to get better, so I can certainly help you take your skills to the next level.
- And there’s always the Pinpoint Session, for a quick fix or feedback on the Pick My Brain page.
