Some people would say more if they talked less.
Some of them might be at your next meeting. Then again, some people have great ideas, but don’t know how to get them from the mind to the mouth and the listener’s ears. Or into proposals, RFP responses, new business pitches, board meetings, brochure copy, cover letters, websites or what not.
Not everyone wants or needs presentation skills training or coaching. What most people want is to be clear, confident and convincing whenever they have something important to say. Whenever you want someone to do, not do or let you do something. Could be an important conversation, a staff meeting, client meeting, in the board room or at home in the dining room. Could be standing up, sitting down, in writing, on the phone or face-to-face, with or without Powerpoint.
Get to the Point! (And Get People to See Things Your Way) is my program for anyone who wants to be a clear, compelling communicator, including being able to make presentations more comfortably, with confidence. Again, based on your situation and needs, I customize each program (and title, if you don’t like Get to the Point!) and I typically zero in on a variety of communication issues that might include How To:
- Focus your message in a compelling way.
- Support your point with just the right mix and type of information based on what you know about your audience, even if they are a mix of communication styles and come with a mix of interests and agendas.
- Use emotion, facts, logic, story, and examples effectively to influence choice in your favor.
- Stay on track without memorizing.
- Think on your feet.
- Eliminate rambling.
- Increase your confidence and credibility.
- Cut your presentation from two hours to 20 minutes, on the spot if you have to, and vice versa.
- Handle questions and objections from your listeners, including those from fans, skeptics and even those who seem to come from a parallel universe.
- Start and close your presentation the right way. (Hint on the latter: it’s not by asking “Are there any questions?”)
- Use visuals to enhance your message, not replace it.
- Stand out from the competition and bring your benefits to life in sales, new business or client interviews.
- Make effective team presentations, regardless of how completely different or alike your team members are.
- Sell the invisible or intangible, such as services. Especially creative, consulting, A/E/C, or health care.
At the end of the program, people will walk away energized and equipped with what they need to know and what they need to do to present and communicate with more impact and influence to get the kind of results, response or decision they’re looking for.
Format and flexibility are up to you. Whether a keynote packed with tips, tricks, pitfalls and pointers; a breakout or interactive workshop with feedback and coaching, I pack each program with tangible tools, real world examples and the right mix of laughter and coaching. No one has to get up in front of the room unless you specifically want them to.
